Last year, one of the biggest collaborations between academic institutes and the pharmaceutical industry was the one between Bayer and the BROAD Institute (an institute of MIT and Harvard University). Dr. Irina Papangeli was among the first researchers to accept the role of lead researcher at the Precision Cardiology Laboratory of this collaboration.
After a successful career in Greece (University of Patras), England (Imperial College London, University College London) and USA (Yale University) Dr.Irina Papangeli is now one of most valuable members of Bayer cardiology team, with main focus on understanding the different molecular mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases, using single cell RNA sequencing. Sponsored by the American Heart Association, one of the most prominent and selective organizations in the United States, Dr. Papangeli has succeed during her postdoctoral research and her work has been published in internationally recognized journals such as Science, Nature and Circulation. Some of her previous work was focused on the MAPK signaling pathway in heart and lung diseases, as well as cellular and molecular mechanisms of angiogenesis, pulmonary hypertension, lipid metabolism and diabetes. Greek women in STEM congratulates Dr. Papangeli and wishes her to best of luck with her career.
