Ηolidays with a little bit of.. science!
by Katerina Bobota
For the second year in a row, we had the pleasure of sharing with you an ambitious activity of Greek Women in STEM, which we secretly love (ok, not so secretly)! THE SheSTEMs symposium!
This year we decided that our scientific symposium will take place live. Being on dot for our annual appointment and just one week before the winter holidays, Women scientists from all over the world came along and honored us with their scientific speeches. The vibe was incredible and there were a looooot of tears from all parties involved!
The central idea of this year’s symposium with title “She STEMs”, like every other activity of Greek Women in STEM, remains the spreading science and promoting of the women who represent it. The participation in the symposium exceeded the number of 100 academics, students, professors from Universities in Greece and abroad. There were so many talks, including but not limited to science communication, career, engineering, and sustainability and even STEM in education.
In order to motivate other women to engage even more in the sciences but also celebrate them, our symposium concluded with an award ceremony for women in the early stages of their careers. In addition, with the support of Bayer Hellas, we managed to also provide two doctoral candidates with scholarships of the exceptional amount of 3,500 euros each in the fields of cancer, agriculture and viniculture science.
So in the wake of this great celebration, let us note that She STEMs 2022 is the first ever Symposium organized in our country with this theme. The thrill as well as the weight of this realization is what catalyzed the symposium and the relationships developed with speakers and audience. And this is just the beginning.
From all of us here at Greek Women in STEM, we wish you have great holidays and happy new year with Love, Joy and lots of Science!
