I am a postgraduate doctoral researcher, specialising in Molecular and Cellular Medicine at the University of Oxford (UK), funded with scholarships from the A. Onassis Foundation and Oriel College, Oxford. In particular, I investigate the biological mechanisms of ageing that modify the function of cells due to advanced age and lead to the development of musculoskeletal diseases, such as osteoarthritis. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Genetics at Newcastle University (UK), and continued with postgraduate studies, fulfilling a Master of Research (MRes) in Ageing. My extensive experience working in different research institutes has enabled me to be involved in investigating diseases that arise due to advanced age and/or immune system malfunction, as well as genetic diseases.
The creation of a social network that brings together Greek women who work and excel in STEM, not only nationally but also globally, provides a strong incentive to continue promoting the excellence of Greek scientists, as well as eliminating any stereotypes that, until recently, prevented women from engaging with sciences, and professional ranking in high-ranking jobs. Having seen the amazing work of Greek Women in STEM in supporting Greek women in science, and getting to know the wonderful women behind it, I decided to become a member of the Organisation and support this initiative. I am part of the external relations team, and I specialise in promoting and communicating our activities on social media.
I am actively involved in science communication and public engagement, either by participating in initiatives that promote biological sciences to the public, or by writing and publishing lay articles about research breakthroughs.
