My name is Maria Koumouri and I am a graduate of Biomedical Sciences (B.Sc.) specializing in the field of Immunology (M.Sc.). I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology at the University of Cyprus. In parallel, I am working as a Research Assistant in the field of molecular basis of cancer at Cyprus Cancer Research Institute. 

My role in Greek Women in STEM involves writing and editing articles about science-related topics to non-expert audiences. Through Greek Women in STEM, I aim to communicate science and the world of scientists to people who do not necessarily have a scientific background but are interested in learning about this mysterious and fascinating world. I hope that sharing the achievements and the experiences of Greek women scientists will inspire anyone interested in the fields of STEM, to pursue their dreams. 

Even though I am very passionate about my job, work-life balance is key for me. Thus, outside of work I love reading books, practicing yoga, hanging out with friends and family and travelling and exploring the world.
