Marina Arbi Ph.D.

Manager in Fundraising and Academy

I studied Biology at the University of Patras (Greece) and pursued my Master’s degree in Biotechnology in the same Department. After completing my M.Sc. studies, I carried out Ph.D. research at the Medical School of the University of Patras. Moving towards a postdoctoral position, I obtained a 3.5-year national grant from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) for conducting research as a postdoctoral junior leader. I also worked as a University Fellow, participating in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Currently, I am working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Human Genetics Unit, Institute of Genetics and Cancer at the University of Edinburgh. My research focuses on a subgroup of human rare genetic diseases, called Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), which affects the physiology of many systems of the human body, including the airway, the reproductive system, and the brain.

I joined Greek Women in Stem to connect with, be supported by, and support fellow female scientists. My vision is to inspire the younger generation of women to pursue careers in STEM and help close the “dream gap”. I am involved in the Academy & Events and External Relations teams to build a strong network that promotes collaboration and the professional growth of Greek women in Science and Technology.

Outside of work, baking and cooking make me feel very creative! I enjoy meeting with friends and engaging in nice and long discussions. I also enjoy training, which gives me the energy to keep both my body and mind strong.
