Social Impact
I am a University Teacher at the University of Sheffield, leading the employability
strategy for the School of Chemical Materials and Biological Engineering. I design/deliver content focusing on employability, research, and product design. I also organise events, liaising with alumni and employers, and promote opportunities for students. Part of my role is also to monitor the progress and wellbeing of PhD
researchers, and when I can I engage with research in Engineering Education. Prior to my current role, I was a Training Coordinator for PhDs at the University of Strathclyde, a Postdoctoral Researcher at King's College London, and I also held small contracts on science communication and scientific writing. I hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, where I researched textile effluent remediation using bioinspired silica 'sponges', an MSc from the University of Strathclyde on sustainable chemical processing and an MEng from NTUA, Greece in Chemical Engineering. During my PhD, I developed a passion for teaching/training, researcher development, science communication, and employability, hence my “career switch” from research to training.
I joined GWiS because I found the group and their mission inspirational; I wish there was something similar when I was deciding my education steps. The group aims to empower women in STEM, and as a woman in STEM myself I cannot but support this because we need more of us around! I envisage my role being around creating educational content, supporting mentoring activities, and possibly liaising with key stakeholders in Greece or the UK.
Outside of work, I love travelling, exploring new places and new cultures, and I love trying new cuisines (asian food, especially Japanese, is at the top of my list). I also love colour, which for me translates to unique earrings, or to colourful makeup.
