Science Communication Team
I am an Environmental Engineer and currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Yale School of Public Health (USA). Growing up in a small city in Greece with high industrial air pollution, I developed a concern for the well-being of both humans and the environment. This motivated me to take my first steps into the field of Environmental Health Sciences, starting with my degree in Environmental Engineering. During my studies, I completed a thesis on the detrimental effects of parabens on environmental biomarkers, a major public health concern. After graduating, I received a scholarship to attend an interdisciplinary program focused on environmental crises. There, I worked on projects addressing the ecological and health consequences of environmental disasters, with a focus on renewable energy solutions. Additionally, my internship provided insights into bioenergy production and industrial compliance. These experiences have shaped my purpose and direction to continue with my Ph.D., where my research will focus on the effects of environmental contaminants on human health using both analytical chemistry and molecular biology techniques.
As a member of Greek Women in STEM, I am part of the Science Communication team, actively contributing to both the magazine and podcast teams. Through my work in GWiS, I aim to provide valuable advice to the younger generation and inspire more women to pursue careers in STEM. By sharing my experiences and offering insights into various STEM fields, I hope to encourage and empower young women to explore and excel in their careers.
Outside of work, I love staying active by doing different kinds of sports like Rhythmic Gymnastics, Yoga, and Pilates. I also enjoy reading books and traveling. These activities keep me energized, provide new perspectives, and allow me to explore different cultures and experiences.
